It rained like mad today. It was actually really nice. I drew and listened to music until it was time to get ready for the show. I talked to my sister on Skype and she asked if I’d bring my computer so she could watch. I let some of my pretty pink hair show under my headdress. We never have big crowds at our shows when it rains so I wasn’t really looking forward to it. Jim drove us to Art Lab. Damn! I promised to bring Forrest some cupcakes but I forgot. Thoth set up the camera while I set up my computer. My sister wasn’t online. I called her a few times but she didn’t pick up her phone. It was a half hour before the show and no one was there. I started getting depressed. “No one’s coming.” I said to Thoth. He hugged me and tried to make me feel better. He gets worried about me when I’m sad. The place started filling with people, about half full. Jim introduced our show as “a full opera with no intermission.” He’s never said that before. We went onstage and I saw Forrest in the front row with a friend. I did some really cool things vocallduring “Anya,” but when we finished- silence. No one clapped or did anything. Again, after “Sea Expressions”- nothing. So weird! We always have to drink water in between songs and when there’s no audience interaction it can be pretty awkward. We spoke in our language, but people just weren’t responding. Finally people clapped after our third piece, but it was hesitant, very much like it is in the park sometimes. I went to the back during Thoth’s solo and told Jim how weird it was. “They’re mesmerized.” he said. When we finished with “Tango,” I didn’t even want to go back up for an encore. The rain makes people weird here. We sang “Scottish Song” and then brought up some chairs for a Q&A. That was fun, but it was so hot on the stage! Thoth told a really awesome story of when he was at the Academy Awards. He’s told me before, but not the way he told it this time. When we finished, people bought CDs and talked to us. A woman asked me about our diet. I told her we have something light for breakfast like a smoothie, then we fast during the day. After prayformance, we eat whatever we want, though we tend to eat light anyway. She said, “You’ve change the way I see the world.” That was a nice reflection. After we packed up and were walking to the car, Dave said we should go in depth about our world. “This is not your shtick. This is your way of life. You need to show people how deep this goes.” he said. We went home with Jim and I took a scan picture and a shower before eating dinner. We worked a little before going to bed.
We brought our camera to the show but forgot to make a video so I took a scan picture instead.

I finally finished them! I’ve never drawn more intricate fashion people before. I can’t wait to color them in!
I got up at 1pm. I guess I stayed up too late last night. Thoth was at the grocery store getting things for my cupcakes. 🙂 He’s so sweet! He came home and we put all the groceries away. He got food for the next few days because it’s going to rain buckets. I helped him make cupcakes. When they were done, I had one and started working on my costume people. I finally finished drawing them and my paints arrived. I was really excited. I tore into them and squirted them out, but the red wasn’t red, it was orange! That didn’t make a nice pink or purple, so I put it all back in the box and figured out how to return it. I’m going to use my face paint until I find something better to use. We’re making salmon sandwichs for dinner! I hope people come to our show tomorrow.

It’s my birthday! Thoth came in the morning and made all the Babes sing me happy birthday in all their different voices. It’s so cute. He did that the first time last year. He’s going to make cupcakes for me tomorrow. 🙂 We got dressed really lazily. My sister, mom and dad called to wish me happy birthday. I got my birthday card from mom. Jim came home and I asked if he was OK the restaurant we’re going to tonight wasn’t vegan. He said maybe he should pass on it. I texted Mel and asked if she’d like to come. We biked to the park. It was way past 3pm when we started. There was no one in the park. Wednesday’s are notoriously slow. It didn’t matter. We were really relaxed. Mel texted me back saying she’s let me know in a little bit if she can come. No one gathered when we sang “Anya,” but a few people watched “Romanza.” One of the only people watching came over and asked if we sell our music. He loved us and wished us good luck on our trip to Edinburg. After “Waltz,” a older woman was adoring us. I gave her a CD just because I wanted to, but she insisted on paying us for it. We played one more song and packed up. I talked to the woman and Chet came over to say hello. He told us the crazy park ranger Parrish came over and haggled him for no reason. We made our video and packed up, then biked over to the Prado Restaurant. We got a table and Forrest arrived just after we did. He brought me a present! A gift card for an art store and some of my favorite lemon energy bars. 🙂 We had a really nice time talking and ordered a bunch of appetizers to share. Half way through we were surprised by Mel and her girlfriend who arrived with cupcakes! They ordered food and we talked and laughed together. It was a wonderful birthday dinner. I called my sister and everyone said happy birthday to her. The waiter brought me a free custard for dessert. I shared it with everyone. The check came and Forrest unexpectedly paid for our dinner! Isn’t that sweet? We unlocked our bikes outside and Forrest walked us to his car. We passed a resonant space. The road is closed to cars so maybe we could play there! Forrest put our bikes in his big truck and drove us home. He’s one of the most generous people I’ve ever known. Thoth got in bed and I took a shower and listened to music on my computer and drew a bit.

I got pretty frustrated on my costume drawings. I couldn’t figure out what to do. I have an immense desire to make my drawing look real, but I don’t have the skills unless I copy something. Thoth and I talked about it for a while, then I got back into it and worked in the evening. We planned on ordering a pizza for a treat, but it got too complicated so I gave up. Instead I made us tuna melts and continued drawing. I’m on a roll!

I got up at 11am. I was freaked out about buying our plane tickets to Scotland. It’s so expensive I can’t validate spending that much money. On what? What if we don’t make any money? What if it’s like New York? Or worse, Berlin? Sure, we’ll probably make enough to pay for our expenses, but can we actually make a profit?? It would be amazing if we could. I got up and tried to draw, but I had to talk to Thoth about it. He suggested I call my father to ask his advice. I did and it didn’t help at all. He went on his usual way about how we should settle down because Thoth is getting older. He’s too logical for me. I don’t think that way at all. I thanked him and asked Jim’s advice. He continued on his way saying if we had shilled out $500 for the Wedding Bazaar we could possibly have 5 gigs laid out. I got so angry I got up and left the table. Argh! Thoth called Sarah and asked for her advice. She said we should do it. We’re trying to find a new place to prayform and how else will we find it if we don’t try. Thoth went on line and bought the tickets for us! Yay! We’re going to Edinburg for our honeymoon! I was finally able to draw a little bit.
